Copyright Information

Copyright refers to the "Right to copy".Writers can avoid violating copyright law by  assuming that everything is copyrighted and not in public domain. Although, copyright applies to all original literacy or  textual works, dramatic works, musical works, artistic works and architectural work. The canadian copyright act protects creative endeavours by ensuring that the creators have the sole right to authorize their publication, performance or reproduction. As we know that law of copyright also applies to the internet, so most individual works found there are protected, using internet text or graphics without the permission of the copyright holder, for instance is an infringement of copyright law.To avoid copyright infringement keep in mind legal and acceptable when borrowing words, charts, graphs, photos, music or anything created privately. The following guidlines will help you a lot.
Assume that everything is copyrighted as we know that in canada, copyright entitlement legally ends at a certain point.
Realize that internet items are not in the public domain i.e free to be used by anyone
Always ask for permission because you are always safe if you obtain permission and also expect to pay for permission.Another thing is don't assume that a footnote is all that is needed as it prevents only plagiarism.
