Now a days defamation lawsuits have become so common that some companies no longer provide letters of recommendation for former employees. To be always safe, give recommendations only when the former employee authorize the recommendation and always say something positive.Employees, handbooks, also requires careful wording because a court might rule that such statement are "implied contracts". handbook remark should be always good. Another thing, companies are warned to avoid promissory phrases in writting job advertisement, application forms and offer letters.
